Service Delivery Manager: Doing It the (B)right Way

Published on Jan 22, 2020

What’s the best thing that can happen to you in relation to your career? Some of you will say, ‘Having the opportunity to do what I love doing.’ Others will say, ‘Doing work that I find meaningful and inspiring.’ Still, others might say, ‘Working at an organization that recognizes my efforts and loyalty and challenges me to improve both as a person and as a professional.’ Finally, there will be those who will say, ‘Being part of a team which makes me feel safe but at the same pushes me to challenge myself and experiment.’

No matter which of these responses you associate with, you are certainly in the right direction. But what if you can find a place where you can do the kind of work you love doing and find meaningful and inspiring, get recognition for your diligence and accomplishments, improve in personal and professional terms, and belong to a team that offers a sense of safety and comfort but also encourages you to act bravely and creatively?

Impossible? Not at all, as Ilian Georgiev, a deputy service delivery manager at Bright, will tell you without hesitation.

The (B)right next step

After he earned a B.A. in business administration from the New Bulgarian University, Ilian went on to pursue an M.A. in bank management at the same institution. He started his first job as a business development specialist at a large bank while he was still studying. Over the next six years, he worked his way up the corporate ladder, becoming a product manager and, later, head of section budgeting and reporting. He then transferred to one of the market leaders in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul, where he worked as a process engineer for almost three years.

The assignments he worked on in these companies gave him solid professional experience but nine years after he stepped into the corporate world, he realized he needed a change. He came across a Bright advertisement for a position suitable for a professional with his profile. When he applied for the job, he didn’t have any specific expectations, but one interview with an HR specialist later, he felt confident he had found a company culture that reflects his own values: honesty, integrity, and trust.

‘Bright gives the fundament, but then we are responsible for ourselves [and] move forward [together],’ Ilian says, emphasizing the key role the managers play in this process by setting a good example with their everyday actions and maintaining a healthy environment.

The taste of creative freedom

As a deputy service delivery manager, Ilian manages projects through their entire lifecycle. He evaluates customer projects according to the best practices in the field, makes sure that the design of each solution meets the requirements and preferences of our clients, participates in the preparation and execution of demos and pre-sale activities, and mentors other Brighters or clients’ staff members.

What he likes about working at Bright the most is the freedom he has to take the initiative and lead projects as he sees fit. He can thus develop various competences and leverage his creativity without having to endure the stress that comes with the strict supervision in highly hierarchical organizations. At the same time, he makes effective use of Bright’s support when it comes to training, acquiring three ITIL certifications in just over a year.

The beauty of togetherness

The absence of smothering supervision at Bright is not the only factor that keeps stress away from Ilian. Equally important in this regard is his sense of belonging to a community of open-minded individuals who do their best every day and help those around them do the same.

What does this togetherness mean for Ilian? Two things. First, he knows that whenever he needs advice, support, or anything else, he has dozens of colleagues he can turn to for help. And second, every minute he spends in Bright’s office is a minute spent among friends.
