What motivates the members of the BRIGHT Charity Committee?

Published on Apr 15, 2021

Making an impact has always been one of BRIGHT’s core values. As the two-year mandate of the current BRIGHT Charity Committee ends and a new one is being inaugurated, we peek behind the curtains of the team’s endeavours.

Sharing one’s experience can be an inspiration for others to pay the good forward. That is why we asked three members of BRIGHT’s 2018-2020 Charity Committee three questions, revealing their most cherished memories of the last two years and their motivation to embark on this adventure.

Atanas Kodinov, Project Manager at BRIGHT

What was your favourite initiative during your membership? What memories does it bring to you?

AK: The most significant influence on me and my philosophy was visiting the Village of Dren’s foster home. It was then that I realized – charity is not just about money. What is more important is the close communication and the good example you can before underprivileged kids. Walking and talking with children is much more enriching for them than a new desk or a bar of chocolate.

What was your motivation to be part of the BRIGHT Charity Committee?

AK: It was very altruistic, although, over time, I realized that I also found a bit of selfish motivation. Helping and sharing with other people has always been a pleasure for me, but I also noticed enormous benefits for myself with the time on the Committee. Participation in various initiatives certainly contributes to personal and spiritual growth.

The main lessons I learned were to appreciate everything I have, enjoy the opportunities given to me, and not take myself and my problems too seriously. It was a good reality check! Grounding yourself a little is always a good idea.

What would you say to the people who will be part of the Committee in the next term?

AK: That they are lucky. I believe they have their ideas and views on charity, so I would not allow myself to guide them or give any advice. Just appreciate the opportunity.

Maya Staneva, Creative Manager at BRIGHT

What was your favourite initiative during your membership? What memories does it bring to you?

MS: I was inspired by all the initiatives that happened during our term at the Committee. The brightest memories are mainly from the gratitude we received.

My favourite activity as a designer was producing a Christmas Coloring Book with illustrations by our Marketing Communications Manager Iskra. We sent books to several children’s hospitals and a foster home, and I hope they brought joy to the children there.

What was your motivation to be part of the BRIGHT Charity Committee?

MS: For me, the Committee is a place to focus our collective energy and compassion on something meaningful. My motivation was to be part of this core of gratuitous giving. I hope that our efforts and the budget that the company has set aside will have a lasting trace in the destinies of the people we have helped.

What would you say to the people who will be part of the Committee in the next term?

MS: To listen to their hearts and know that their efforts will leave a mark.

Sergey Aleksandrov, Senior Solution Architect at BRIGHT

What was your favourite initiative during your membership? What memories does it bring to you?

SA: I have two. The first is an initiative called “Knigodar” (a pun of the words “Book” and “Gift” in Bulgarian). Through it, we managed to donate hundreds of books to various institutions. Thanks to the initiative, I was once again convinced that my colleagues are also people with big hearts in addition to proven professionals.

The second initiative is a donation we made to the pediatric ward of a hospital. The brightest memory is the surprise and sincere gratitude from the medical workers there. It was clear how happy they are that someone supports them and thinks about the kids in the first place. I would be glad to continue to help them.

What was your motivation to be part of the BRIGHT Charity Committee?

SA: Great ideas could be realized with the resources the company sets aside. Without the Committee, it would be much more difficult.

What would you say to the people who will be part of the Committee in the next term?

SA: We can bring joy to so many people if we put a little effort into it. Let’s show the world that there are people who think not only of their benefit but also of others’ well-being.
